How do I join?

If you have chosen band as your elective next year, congratulations! We are very excited to meet you all. The directors are coming to the elementary schools after TAKS testing so that you can try out all the instruments we have to offer! At that time, you will choose your favorite three. A letter will be mailed to your home in the end of May or beginning of June imforming you of which instrument you will be playing next year! Instrument selections are based upon your choices, class sizes, and the director's professional opnions.

If you have not chosen band as your elective next year, it's not too late to join!!! Try out the instruments when the directors come to your school and contact the Canyon Ridge Middle School counselors at (512) 570-3524.

We currently are the largest organization at CRMS, with over 208 members in the band program. 103 of those students are current 6th graders, and we are anticipating an even larger 6th grade class next year. We are very proud of the accomplishments the band has had the past two years, and we would love to share those with you.

Here is some general information about the band program that might help answer some of your questions:

- No prior musical experience is necessary.
- No before/after school practice during the 6th grade year.
- Students can be in band AND athletics/dance/cheer in 7th/8th grade.
- There are 2 to 3 concerts a year and an optional solo contest in the spring.
- Classes meet daily and are grouped by like-instruments to achieve maximum playing potential.
- The band programs at LISD are highly regarded in the area, state, and national levels.
- Music has proven to be a tremendous incentive for maintaining a good academic record.
